Member To Meet - Emmy Ross

In the final week of the 2021 year, we’re closing it out with a final - yet exciting feature of Emmy Ross. Our Member to Meet campaign highlights a BWC Circle member as they take us behind the scenes of their business, successes, and even their losses. Today, we get to know Emmy, the Founder of Revel & Flourish, Posies and Poise, and Alta Events Co.

How long have you been in business and please explain to our audience what you do?  I own three businesses in the wedding and event industry. Posies and Poise is a wedding planning and design company that I started in 2010. I also started Alta Events Co at that time, and that business focuses more on conferences, meetings, workshops, and non-profit events. When the pandemic hit and live events ground to a halt, we pivoted and started offering marketing and administrative assistance services to our clients. It was a smooth transition and we are continuing to offer these services today. My third company is called Revel & Flourish and we are a decor, design, and floral company. In addition to making couples’ wedding dreams come true and curating unique and custom events for our corporate clients, we also offer floral delivery and gift-giving services. We love being able to bring a little bit of joy into people's everyday lives!

How long have you been a member of the BWC and how has this helped you with your business growth and development? I have been a BWC member for 5 years and have been a part of a few different circles during that time. I have treasured the comradery, the insights, and the life long friendships I have gained by being a member. Each meeting I am forced to sit down and actually focus on the business as a whole, rather than wading through the day-to-day tasks of business ownership. It has allowed me to see the bigger picture of where my business currently is, and where I want it to go.

What are 1-2 goals you had for 2021?:
A major goal of mine for 2021 is to continue to grow my team. We have an excellent core group of employees and lots of hungry contractors and interns who are biting at the bit to get more involved. It is really important to me to cultivate employees who love what they do and give our clients the same level of devotion that we have been doing for many years. In order to obtain the big goals I have set out for myself and my businesses, we need to have the right people in place to make that happen!

How did your Circle help you achieve your goals this year? I love that I can bring my goals and future dreams to the group and they not only can give helpful advice has been in the same situations, but also offer a valuable different perspective on things. Sometimes when you are so focused on attaining a goal, you don’t see efficiencies or different processes that others in the circle can identify and bring to the front of mind.

This year The BWC is focusing on community what does community mean to you how does this apply to your business: One thing I have been extremely grateful for with the BWC is the sense of community. I have always felt that within my circle and any of the BWC events that there has been a group of women who are there to listen, support, and guide me as I navigate this crazy thing called business ownership. It is so nice to know that there is a group of people who are ready and willing to help with whatever you might need, both business-wise and personal-wise.

Do you have any best practices to share around finding your community and the importance of this?  A piece of advice I recently heard that really resonated with me is to just be kind to people. That includes people in your company, your organization, your community, and even strangers. When you are open and able to listen to other people, that kindness comes back around to you two-fold through connection and gratitude. That means listening, getting back to people, showing up, and lifting up however you can.

Within your community, who is a role model for you and why? Honestly everyone within the BWC is a role model for me, all of the women who are constantly killing it managing successful businesses and full family lives. I also really appreciate my friends within this community who share the real struggle of business ownership and life balance, who get into the nitty gritty and say what needs to be said, that this all is really damn hard and we are all champions for doing the best that we can.

Just for fun what are 2-3 things you always take with you when you leave the house?:  2-3 beverages (I always have to have bevies on hand)
Hairbinder
Phone

Favorite lesson from 2020: We can get through the hard stuff.

Anything else you would like to share?: I love meeting people and making new connections so please reach out! I'd love to hear from you! :)
