AI & Being Human

AI & Being Human

This content was originally published in the February 16, 2023 In Circle News, a weekly newsletter for BWC Members. While AI has continued to evolve and advance, the heart of this article still holds true.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) - particularly Generative AI has been in the news, on our feeds, in Circle discussions and everywhere you look. It is a fascinating subject to explore and as someone who is always looking for ways to automate things - it is a tempting tool.

Consider some of the following ways AI is already being used.

AI can manage your hiring process, it:

AI can develop your content, it has been used to:

I recently experienced AI in these ways:

  • Read articles written by AI - this one gives you a good sense of how it works/could be used

  • Experienced an analysis and coaching on how I spoke in a meeting (repetitive words, weak words, noninclusive words, etc.) from the Yoodli tool

  • Wrote a Valentine for my husband using the NYT Valentine Generator (I went for an "over the top" "pirate style", my second one was in the style of a Taylor Swift song)

If AI can hire, project manage, find solutions, create content and evaluate people - will we need leaders?

I'd like to believe the answer is yes. But with benefits like; giving people more time, making things easier, harnessing the power of data, etc. are being touted, it does make you wonder: So what does this mean for humans?

Perhaps it means we will be more human. This Inc. article argues that that is what will happen with content, since today - humans are writing content for Google - not necessarily other humans.

  • Humans will write content for humans

  • Content will become more human

  • The individual voice will become more valuable

If used for good - AI might be the tool that helps us set boundaries, focus on what is important in our lives and spend our time interacting, developing, mentoring and leading humans. We could focus on creating workplaces, communities and homes that celebrate people.

After all, my husband enjoyed his AI Pirate Valentine - but I got to enjoy the laughter, the hug and the thank you. Don't think AI can do that!! 🥰
